Game Preview: Cincinnati Hosts Boston College in Season Opener

The 2026 football season will be 139th in UC program history

CINCINNATI — Football returns to Historic Nippert Stadium on Saturday as Cincinnati opens the 2026 season against Boston College. After taking another step forward a year ago, the Bearcats enter the new campaign looking to build momentum under Scott Satterfield while opening the season with a Power Four opponent.

Season openers always come with unanswered questions, but they also provide an opportunity to establish an identity. Cincinnati will look to showcase its offseason development, set the tone on both sides of the ball, and begin the year with the kind of complete performance that can build confidence heading into Big 12 play.

Players to Watch:

  • JC French IV — All eyes will be on Cincinnati's new starting quarterback as he makes his first start in a Bearcats uniform. Replacing a veteran quarterback is never easy, but French has impressed throughout camp with his command of the offense and poise. Saturday provides the first real opportunity to see how his game translates against live competition.
  • Dontay Corleone — One of the nation's premier defensive tackles returns to anchor Cincinnati's defense. Corleone has the ability to completely disrupt an opposing offense, whether by collapsing the pocket or demanding double teams that create opportunities for those around him. If he controls the line of scrimmage, it could be a long afternoon for Boston College's offense.
  • Evan Pryor — A productive running game can be a young quarterback's best friend. Whether Pryor is finding running lanes between the tackles or contributing as a receiver out of the backfield, Cincinnati will likely lean on its veteran playmaker to help keep the offense balanced and take pressure off French in his debut

Notes:

  • Fans are being asked to wear white for the season opener, creating a "White Out" atmosphere at Nippert Stadium.
  • Saturday marks Boston College's first trip to Nippert Stadium since 1996, renewing a series that has been dormant on Cincinnati's home field for three decades.
  • Boston College has struggled away from home in recent years, winning just one of its last 10 true road games. Cincinnati will look to take advantage of that trend while defending its home field.
