BLOOMINGTON — Jeremiah Smith has added another historic achievement to his remarkable Ohio State career, tying the Big Ten record for career touchdown receptions with a 38-yard score against Indiana on Saturday afternoon.
Facing fourth-and-one from the Indiana 38-yard line with 12:46 remaining in the fourth quarter, quarterback Julian Sayin connected with Smith deep over the middle for the touchdown. The play gave Smith 39 career touchdown receptions, tying the record set by Michigan's Braylon Edwards from 2001 through 2004.
Smith entered Saturday's matchup with 38 career touchdown catches and needed just one more to match the former Wolverine, who had held the conference record for more than two decades.
The touchdown adds to Smith's growing list of achievements at Ohio State, where he has already established himself as the program's career leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
With the record now tied, Smith's next touchdown reception would make him the outright Big Ten career leader, adding another accomplishment to what has already become one of the greatest receiving careers in Ohio State history.
