COLUMBUS — Ohio State’s recruiting momentum shows no signs of slowing down. On Monday, head coach Ryan Day and his staff secured a massive verbal commitment from 5-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou, marking the program's second 5-star pledge in the last four days.

The 6-foot-7, 275-pound mauler from Sierra Canyon High School in California chose the Buckeyes over Georgia and Texas. The decision follows a busy stretch of official visits to all three programs over the last several weeks.

While officially listed as a defensive tackle, Fakatou possesses the rare frame and agility that will allow defensive line coach Larry Johnson to deploy him across multiple positions as he continues to develop physically. He currently reigns as California’s top-ranked prospect and sits as ESPN’s No. 2 defensive tackle nationwide.

Fakatou’s addition gives Ohio State two elite five-star prospects along the defensive front for the 2027 class, where he joins top-ranked defensive end D.J. Jacobs, the nation's No. 3 overall recruit. Paired with four-star defensive end Wyatt Smith, Johnson and Day are assembling an incredible amount of talent along the defensive line.

Fakatou's announcement caps off a stellar four-day recruiting run for the Buckeyes, mirroring the excitement from Friday when five-star offensive lineman Caden Moss gave his verbal commitment to Ohio State.
