COLUMBUS — Ohio State has added another piece to its already impressive 2028 recruiting class.
Luke Sohyda, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end from Canon-McMillan High School in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, announced his commitment to the Buckeyes on Tuesday.
Ohio State first offered Sohyda in June after an on-campus 7-on-7 tournament. That setting gave tight ends coach Keenan Bailey an opportunity to evaluate Sohyda as a pass catcher, something he has not had many chances to showcase during varsity games.
Sohyda has primarily made his mark through his size, physicality and versatility. He has played tight end and offensive tackle for Canon-McMillan while also contributing along the defensive line. Ohio State, however, views him as an offensive player capable of developing into a plus blocker and a big target in the passing game.
Sohyda becomes the fifth member of a 2028 class that already includes quarterback Christopher Vargas, wide receiver Jett Harrison, running back Elijah Newman-Hall and defensive lineman Jameer Whyce.
There is a long way to go before the 2028 class arrives in Columbus, and Sohyda remains more of a developmental prospect than a finished product. But Ohio State saw enough this summer to offer him early, and Sohyda saw enough during his recruitment to shut things down and join the Buckeyes.
