CINCINNATI — FC Cincinnati and D.C. United are tied 1-1 at halftime Wednesday night at TQL Stadium, with the Orange and Blue unable to maintain an early lead despite holding a slight statistical advantage.
Cincinnati struck first in the 14th minute when David Doudera scored to give the home side a 1-0 lead. D.C. United responded in the 38th minute, with Kimito Nono scoring off an assist from Peglow to send the teams into halftime level.
The Orange and Blue controlled 51% of possession during the opening half and outshot D.C. United 8-6, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on target. But Cincinnati couldn't find a second goal after Doudera's opener, allowing the visitors to work their way back into the match.
Wednesday's result carries considerable importance for Cincinnati, which entered the evening ninth in the Eastern Conference with 36 points and holding the final playoff position. After Sunday's 2-0 loss to Columbus, the Orange and Blue are looking to get back in the win column and improve their position with the postseason approaching.
The two clubs will meet again Saturday in Washington, making Wednesday's match the first of two meetings in four days. With the score tied at halftime, Cincinnati has another 45 minutes to make its home-field advantage count and collect three valuable points.
