CLEVELAND — Cleveland Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee added another honor to his career Sunday night, winning the 2026 American League Gold Glove Award for pitchers. The 27-year-old right-hander earned the first Gold Glove of his career, becoming just the second pitcher in franchise history to receive the award.
Bibee joins Shane Bieber, who won the award in 2022, as the only Cleveland pitchers to earn the distinction. He was selected over fellow finalists Jacob deGrom of the Texas Rangers and José Soriano, who split the season between the Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays.
Bibee led American League pitchers with five Defensive Runs Saved and was credited with six Outs Above Average. His five Defensive Runs Saved also tied for second among all major league pitchers.
The award comes after Bibee earned his second career Fielding Bible Award last week, further recognizing his defensive performance. He remains the only Cleveland pitcher to receive that honor, having previously won it in 2024.
Although Bibee experienced a rough season on the mound, finishing 7-15 with a 4.36 ERA and 148 strikeouts, his defensive work remained among the best in baseball. His Gold Glove recognition provides a positive conclusion to a challenging individual season.
Bibee was the only Guardians player to win a Gold Glove this year. Outfielder Steven Kwan, who entered the season with four consecutive awards in left field, was a finalist in center field but lost to Boston's Ceddanne Rafaela.
The Gold Glove Awards recognize the best defensive players at each position in the American and National Leagues, with winners determined through a combination of votes from managers and coaches and defensive statistical analysis.
