CLEVELAND — For five innings, it looked like another frustrating afternoon for the Cleveland Guardians.
Instead, it became another memorable walk-off win.
Daniel Schneemann lined a single into right field in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring Angel Genao from second base and giving the Guardians a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field.
Detroit struck first before many fans had settled into their seats. Riley Greene ripped a two-run double into right field in the opening inning, scoring Hao-Yu Lee and Colt Keith to give the Tigers an early 2-0 advantage.
The Guardians immediately answered when Steven Kwan reached and eventually came around to score when Travis Bazzana continued his impressive rookie campaign with an RBI double to right, cutting Detroit's lead to 2-1 after one inning in the books.
From there, the game turned into a pitchers' duel.
Neither offense managed much of anything until the fifth inning when Brayan Rocchio stepped to the plate and launched a solo home run to right-center field. His 13th homer of the season evened the score at 2-2 and breathed new life into Cleveland's offense.
The tie held as both pitching staffs continued to trade zeros, sending the game into extra innings.
After the Guardians kept Detroit off the board in the top of the 10th, they wasted little time capitalizing on their opportunity in the bottom half. Angel Genao began the inning as the automatic runner and advanced into scoring position before Schneemann lined a base hit into right field, bringing Genao home with the winning run.
The victory gave Cleveland another dramatic walk-off win and helped the Guardians close out the weekend on a high note after dropping Saturday night's contest.
What's Next: The Guardians continue their homestand Monday as they begin a series with the visiting Baltimore Orioles. Cleveland will look to build on the momentum from Sunday's walk-off victory as it continues its push toward an American League Wild Card berth.
