CINCINNATI — Cincinnati delivered one of its biggest wins in years Saturday, knocking off previously unbeaten No. 8 Texas Tech, 37-24, before a Homecoming crowd at Nippert Stadium. The victory was UC's first at home against an AP Top 10 opponent since beating Rutgers in 2006.
The Bearcats took control in the second quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points to build a 24-6 halftime lead. Quarterback JC French IV threw three touchdown passes before the break, including a 2-yard strike to Lyviel Waters with five seconds remaining.
Texas Tech fought back in the third quarter, cutting Cincinnati's lead to 24-15 following a controversial interception return for a touchdown. But the Bearcats answered with another French touchdown pass to regain control.
Cole Tabb put the game away with a 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Tabb finished with 173 rushing yards, while French threw for 172 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. Cincinnati's defense also forced three turnovers in the upset.
The win improved Cincinnati to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play, giving the Bearcats a big boost of momentum heading into another ranked matchup against No. 10 Utah on Halloween.
