FRISCO, Texas — The Columbus Crew continued their strong run of form Wednesday night, defeating FC Dallas 2-0 at Toyota Stadium to claim three more points on the road. Goals from Gonzalo Tapia and Santiago Rodríguez provided the offense, while goalkeeper Patrick Schulte made seven saves to preserve the shutout.
Columbus struck first in the 18th minute when Tapia finished a well-worked attacking move with a left-footed shot into the bottom-left corner. Anass Zaroury provided the assist, with Rodríguez receiving credit for the secondary assist, giving the Crew an early 1-0 advantage.
Dallas responded with several scoring opportunities, but Schulte kept the home side off the scoreboard. He made three saves between the 23rd and 28th minutes, stopping attempts from Santiago Moreno, Shaq Moore, and Petar Musa. Schulte added another save in first-half stoppage time to send Columbus into the break with its lead intact.
The Crew continued to face pressure early in the second half, with Schulte denying Bernard Kamungo's header in the 49th minute. Columbus eventually doubled its advantage in the 70th minute when Rodríguez scored from the center of the penalty area, finishing after Dallas goalkeeper Daniel De Sousa Britto had saved a header from Tapia.
Dallas had opportunities to get back into the match, especially during a frantic stretch late in the second half. Anderson Julio missed a chance in the 78th minute, and Kaick Ferreira struck the crossbar two minutes later. Schulte followed with consecutive saves on Julio and Musa to keep the Crew ahead by two.
Columbus held firm through eight minutes of stoppage time, completing the shutout and securing another big road victory. The result gives the Crew back-to-back MLS wins following Saturday's 4-2 victory over Toronto FC, with six goals scored across the two matches.
