LOS ANGELES — Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith made school history Saturday night against USC, becoming the first player in program history to record three seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards.
Smith entered the game needing just 16 yards to reach the milestone. On Ohio State's second possession, he caught a 27-yard pass from true freshman quarterback Luke Fahey, pushing his season total to 1,011 yards in only his eighth game.
The achievement separates Smith from two other accomplished Ohio State receivers. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka each recorded two 1,000-yard seasons, but Smith has now reached the mark in all three of his years with the Buckeyes.
With four regular-season games remaining after USC, Smith has a chance to challenge that conference record before the postseason. His third consecutive 1,000-yard campaign further cements his legacy as the greatest wide receiver in Ohio State history, if not in all of the sport.
