COLUMBUS — Ohio State is expected to start true freshman quarterback Luke Fahey against USC on Saturday night, according to a Friday report from On3's Pete Nakos.
CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz also reported Friday that Fahey is expected to get the start over Tavien St. Clair, who had been competing for the job throughout Ohio State's bye week. Head coach Ryan Day has not officially announced a starter, although Fahey had been considered the favorite after serving as Sayin's primary backup.
We were the first to report that Sayin would miss the reminder of the season two days after he suffered an injury to his throwing arm during Ohio State's 19-15 victory over Indiana on October 17. Fahey replaced Sayin during the fourth quarter, failing to complete either of his two passing attempts. Through seven games, the freshman has completed nine of 13 passes for 203 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
The Mission Viejo, California, native joined Ohio State as a three-star recruit in the 2026 class. Saturday's matchup would give him an opportunity to make his first collegiate start in his home state, facing a USC team that enters the game with a 6-2 record.
Saturday's game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
