CINCINNATI — Evan McPherson’s strong start to the season has earned him another league honor.
The Bengals kicker was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September after going a perfect 8-for-8 on field goals and 8-for-8 on extra points through Cincinnati’s first three games.
McPherson was especially dangerous from long range, making all five of his attempts from at least 50 yards. That included kicks of 55 and 58 yards in the season-opening win over Tampa Bay, a 57-yarder against Houston, and a 50-yarder Sunday at Pittsburgh.
His Week 1 performance against the Buccaneers had already earned him AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after he made four field goals and accounted for 15 points in Cincinnati’s 33-27 victory.
The hot start continues what has been one of the strongest stretches of McPherson’s career. He finished last season 25-of-28 on field goals, including a perfect 20-for-20 from inside 50 yards.
Through three games this season, he has yet to miss anything.
