CINCINNATI — FC Cincinnati returns to TQL Stadium on Saturday afternoon with an opportunity to secure its fifth consecutive MLS Cup Playoff appearance when it hosts the Philadelphia Union. With two matches remaining in the regular season, the Orange and Blue control their postseason fate and can clinch a playoff berth with a victory.
Cincinnati (11-11-10, 43 points) enters the match eighth in the Eastern Conference, having gone unbeaten in its last three contests. The club is coming off a 2-2 draw at Inter Miami on Wednesday, when three goals in the final 10 minutes produced an exciting finish.
After falling behind in the 61st minute, Cincinnati responded with an electrifying goal from Kenji Mboma Dem in the 80th and another special finish for Samuel Gidi in the 86th. Gidi's first career goal for FCC briefly put the visitors ahead before Miami equalized in the 90th minute.
The two goals also gave Cincinnati a new club record of 66 goals in an MLS regular season, surpassing the previous mark of 64 set in 2022. The Orange and Blue have consistently created scoring opportunities this season, with Evander leading the way.
Evander contributed to both goals against Miami, giving him an MLS-leading 17 assists and 31 total goal contributions this season. His ability to create opportunities for teammates has been a major part of Cincinnati's attack, particularly as the club looks to carry its recent momentum into the postseason.
Philadelphia (13-11-8, 47 points) arrives in Cincinnati occupying sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The Union have enjoyed an impressive turnaround since Ryan Richter took over as interim head coach during the summer break. Philadelphia went unbeaten in 15 consecutive matches following the break, winning 12 of them to climb into playoff contention.
The Union secured their postseason berth with a scoreless draw against Nashville on Wednesday. Forward Milan Iloski leads Philadelphia with 19 goals, while 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan has contributed seven goals and 14 assists.
Saturday also gives Cincinnati a chance to avenge a 5-0 loss at Philadelphia on September 9. The Orange and Blue played most of that match shorthanded after Obinna Nwobodo received a red card in the 16th minute, making the circumstances considerably different from what they will face this weekend.
For Cincinnati, the stakes extend beyond simply reaching the playoffs. A victory would move the Orange and Blue within one point of Philadelphia and improve their chances of climbing out of the Eastern Conference Wild Card positions before the regular season concludes November 7 against Nashville.
With two consecutive home matches remaining, Cincinnati has an opportunity to build on its recent performances and strengthen its postseason position. Saturday's match provides the first chance to do both.

Prediction
Philadelphia has been one of the Eastern Conference's most improved teams during the second half of the season, but Cincinnati enters Saturday with momentum of its own. Playing at home with an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth, the Orange and Blue should generate enough scoring opportunities to edge a competitive Union side. Look for a Denkey goal late to win it for Cincinnati.
